Bottom Boat Color

Post by rcornejo »

Hello Everyone,

Can anyone tell me what the best bottom color to use on a flag blue hull color. My current boat needs painting but I don't know what the current color is. It looks very close to like a rust color or light red. Can anyone give me some suggestions.

Thanks,
Roland Cornejo

Whatever color makes you happy!

Many people pick up on trim or other colors for picking a matching bottom color. My boat has a red pin-stripe and so I have red bottom paint.

Mine orginally had green. I switched to black a few years ago.

I have continued to paint Mahalo's bottom with Black Act (seems to cover any fuel, tar residue floating around) but I do admit I love the blue hulls with the red bottoms as they cruise on by... Might just be Red White & Blue in 2011

Does anyone have a picture they can post of the bottom red color? There are a ton of reds and I just want to use what most people have.

Thanks,

It's all about picking your type and brand of paint. I have Petit Ultima SR-40, which is one of their alblative paints. I chose it for it's antifouling properties. The varied color choices for a red are:

RED

If you don't like that you can choose:

BLACK
BLUE
or GREEN

:)

That's pretty standard across all of the major manufacturers. This is not at all like painting your house. Also, the color you see when the boat is on the hard can be quite different from when it's in the water. I'll try and dig up a picture of the boat in the slings and post it for you.

We just had the red bottom of ours redone about a month ago, and our experience was the same as Doug's with regard to the choice of color and it looking different once the boat is in the water. You pick the brand/type of bottom paint you want and take whatever red that they have. Actually, whatever color you put on only stays nice and bright for a very short time, anyway, then all the yukky stuff in the water gets to it.

Red VX-70...it's very sharp when wet...and the stuff is hard as a rock. Nothing sticks to it.

Hi-- I just had my hull imron'd! Take a look-- turns heads at the dock, gas dock on the water -- everywhere!

Also did synthetic teak deck as well

Next project is A/C-- anyone have suggestions?

My boat is a 28TE flush deck- came with old rudder-- had it cut down (because of the great advice I recved on here) and I now feel like I own a new boat- runs like a champ!!!!

To you new members- this site is fantastic! Everything you need to know about your Albin's is right here. Every member is more than willing to help.

Hi Steve,
What a beautiful boat!! It sounds like you have done a lot to it. Was the teak hard to install? Thanks again for showing me your pictures.

Roland
Thanks! Synthetic teak was not diff as i paid to have it done--Funny i know

Was 4000 for the entire deck

I love my boat-- every time I think of a larger one I think about how little this costs me to run.

I have owned 5 boats-- you cannot get a better 28 footer than this model.

What year is your boat?

Steve,

What's the deck product called and where did you have it done? My deck is in tough shape cosmeticly, might give your look some thought.

Thanks!
