What are they?

Post by Leonardo »

I know I should have taken a photo...and will if we can't figure out what I have, but I have two wooden arms that are about 18-20" long that curve up slightly. One end is rounded, the other end has a clamp. It "looks" like it would clamp to one of the rail stantions that go around the hull. Each clamp has two bolts and a curved cap so that it would squeeze the wooden part onto the stantion. If kayaks were popular back when my boat was made I would say its for storage of a kayak, it has that kind of look but remember they are made of wood and only about an inch thick. I found them in the storage closet. So, What are they?

I think I found out. I was told they were for a drying rack that goes over the swim platform on my boat. My friend Rich pointed out that if you looked closely you could see where there was once interconnecting flat wooden stays between the two arms making a kind of open shelf. If you go to the back of my boat and look at the two outer portside stantions you can see where the arms attached. Question solved.

It's always interesting to try and figure out what a prior owner (and with Albins, the factory) had set up on your boat!

We'll have to post more "what is it?" posts here...like the segment on This Old House.
