my new peninsular 310 seems to stabalize at just over 150 degrees. that seems a little cool to me.any inputs appreciated

Seems cool for a diesel. My Yanmar peaks out at 176 degrees. (80C)

My 300 Peninsular has a 160 degree thermostat and runs at that temp.

Lucky you. So long as it's still running, I don't see that as a problem. Cooler engines experience less fatigue, and reduced wear. A diesel can be "too cold" in so far as it could be so cold that it won't combust, but that is obviously not your problem.

My Caterpillar runs anywhere from 130 to 205 depending on rpms.

Diesels that run too cool coke up ( local term )...not a good thing. I know that Yanmars have to run at a pretty high temp to stay clean. Don't know a thing about Peninsular Diesels but I'd check with them a see what the proper operating temp for that engine should be.
