Wiper refills/replacement

Post by Cape Codder »

The wipers on my 2003 28 TE are splitting, with pieces of rubber hanging off.
I rarely use them, because Rain-X has done such a great job keeping the windshield clear.
However, the rubber inserts are blowing in the breeze.
Does anyone know if the rubber inserts are available?
Or do I need to replace the entire SS wiper with blade?

Thanks.

When I purchased my used Albin it had Ansco wiper blades on it and they were completley flexible and had no sign of rust. I was really impressed and have stuck with them over the years. I recently put on new arms and had to cut the base of the old ones to get them off. I got the pantographic arm for the center windshield but still went with Ansco blades all around.

No problem. I have since swapped all 3 blades over to panto's but the NAPA refills had fit the stock blades.

Rob, which pantographic arms do you have? I've often thought of changing at least my center wiper to improve my bad weather visability. Did you install a washer system as well? Sometimes the issue is more spray than rain and the drying salt really messes with my rain-x.

The polished stainless are more costly than the black stainless. I have compared the polished stainless and the black stainless and the polished are built better. I only did the center so I wanted polished stainless for uniformity regardless.

I have pantograph wipers and use a 22 inch Anco blade. I buy the entire unit with stave type fittings ... about $11.00 each if I recall correctly from a week or so ago. The auto parts store I use will order the replacement blades alone but they do not keep any in stock for there are simply too many variations.

Thanks Rob! Part numbers and everything! I really appreciate it.

This will go on the project list right after:
- Rebuild helm
- Rewire significant portion of 12v system (see Helm rebuild)
- Install TV
- Completely strip, barrier coat, and paint bottom
- Spec new canvas
- Find where the heck the zinc attaches to my 23Kgf (I've looked and looked!)

Doug,
I thought I remembered that my 50kgf takes the same zinc part number as your 23 model. I just went on boatzincs.com and looked it up to verify. The lower unit drain plug has female threads at the underside into which the zinc is installed. Check your drain plug before ordering just in case the drain plug has been changed out or the female threads are damaged, etc.

Here is the zinc in place:

Here is my recent order from boatzincs showing the different vetus zincs, etc.:

Thanks again Rob. I checked out boatzincs and saw that the odd truncated U zinc might be the one I need. I also did some research and it is possible that my somewhat older 23Kgf doesn't take a zinc but gets its protection from the boats zincs. At this point I'm going to need to get a model and serial number off of the unit and ask Vetus. I noticed that Boatzincs refers to a '23a' model, maybe mine is just a '23'.

Doug,
The 23A replaced the 23. The difference was an updated motor, no changes in the lower unit. Both the 23 and the 23A take the same drian plug mounted zinc - the "odd truncated U" as you put it :D

It is hard to see but here is a picture of my 23Kgf thruster showing the BP-129 zinc on the bottom. There is no drain plug. The bolt goes into the bottom of the unit.
