Has anyone experienced having their genset getting flooded with raw water? My
1999 35TE has the genset exhaust on the port side aft, and it is submerged when
running on a plane. Twice is several years I have had the engine hydrolocked after
a day of running. I'm thinking of moving the genset exhaust to the transom unless
someone else has a better idea.

I was just cruising through the older forum pages and saw your post. Did you ever find a solution? I'm asking since I'm starting to look at 35TEs and wondered if this was a common problem.

never solved it, I did find one vane on the impeller missing which could allow pressurized water to pass the cam if in just the right position.
I am also about to remove the clam shell scoop strainer on the outside over the thru hull thinking at 15-18 kts it is pressurizing the system.
I wonder if anyone knows if the scoop strainer is factory installed or previous owner?

I thought your original point of the water backing up the exhaust side was a possibility. Does your exhaust have a vented loop well above the waterline? You could pull the exhaust from where it connects to the generator and see if you get any flow while running the boat at speed.
Clamshell strainer on the inlet would allow for use while underway, just as the engine strainer does. I believe that's standard but maybe someone else with a generator will chime in.

exhaust hose is doesn't have much lift from muffler to outlet cuz of deck beams, I've thought of relocating to the transom from the
port corner but that's another hole in the boat, besides others don't seem to be having a problem or they are talking. So I've focused
on the inlet side of the equation.
