Practical thing I wish I kept on boat

Almost every time I'm on the boat I wish I had a good camera versus the one on my phone. There was a seal laying on my swim platform this morning and just last week some of the craziest looking birds I've yet to identify swam around me. I do keep a bird catalog and a whale spotting guide, but a decent camera should be there. Anyone else wish they kept something aboard?

I am thinking about a "boat camera" though. Probably one of the Olympus Tough series that are shock resistand and waterproof. If I put an Eye-Fi wireless memory card in it (which uploads automaticly over Wi-Fi) it should upload all the new pics whenever I'm back in the slip.

The Eye-Fi is a great idea for my lovely but technically challenged wife. Unfortunately my camera is not on the compatibility list.

Been cutting quite a bit of holes lately with Matt Hanna between TOY-RIFIC and DOGHOUSE as we are installing A/C units on both our boats. As one cuts or drills the other has the vac in place to minimize the mess. Just yesterday we commented that we need to add central vac to the list of upgrades, 12V powered of course

I picked up a Dewalt DC 500 2 gallon vac today. Small enough to carry around and plugs into AC or runs off the 18 volt battery packs.

I didn't make it to the boat yesterday. I did try it around the house with great success. Sharon encouraged me to test and test and test. "Keep testing dear"

A good quality cordless drill as well as some quality Craftsman tools. Traditionally, we've kept only cheap tools on the boat, as they are prone to corrosion, being dropped overboard, etc... However, as Nordvika is a bigger boat and tools can be kept in a very dry and clean place, I've found that they tend to last longer. It's probably time to put some better quality tools on there.

An old toolmaker's motto : Put a penny in your toolbox and your tools will never rust.
Probably not 100% true, but I keep pennies in with my tools and I'm convinced it helps. They act as an anode.

Yea..we may have to rob our toolboxes when we pull up to the fuel dock. LOL

And depending on how "old" that toolmaker was, does that mean we may need to leave 10's & 20's in our toolboxes, you know a penny does not get you much these days.
