Re: Michigan to Rhode Island
Thanks. We came back via lake St. Clair, Detroit River, full length of Lake Erie, entire Erie Canal starting in Buffalo, Hudson river from Troy to NYC, then Long Island Sound to Narragansett Bay.
I thought the names I attached to the photos in Photobucket might show up here after I did copy and paste, but no luck. The photos are of 1. Vermilion Ohio in Lake Erie 2. Erie, PA on Lake Erie 3. Ilion, NY along Erie Canal 4. Lock 17 in Erie Canal and 5. Hudson River near West Point.
Absolutely great cruise. The Erie Canal was fantastic, Hudson River astonishingly scenic and we stopped in nice towns. Lake Erie was probably the least enjoyable. We were surprised at how much we enjoyed the Detroit River -- we stayed at the Detroit Yacht Club, a charming relic of Detroit's salad days with nice members and excellent facilities. There were immense old industrial facilities along the river (mostly abandoned) that showed Detroit's history as a manufacturing powerhouse.
Other great stops included Erie PA, Buffalo, many stops on the Erie Canal like Fairport and Ilion, Troy NY, Haverstraw and one other Hudson River town whose name escapes me.
