A couple of years ago I made a post asking about Alaskan bulkheads in Albin 28s. Several members made responses and I also have several photos showing them installed, but none of the photos are close-up enough to show how they are fitted at the bottom where they are fitted to the deck. What I am concerned about is how the vertical bulkhead fits between the forward hydraulic engine hatch in the pilothouse and the after hydraulic hatch in the cockpit.
I have now decided to go ahead and have one made for my for my 2005 A-30FC, operating on the assumption that my pilothouse arrangement and deck layout is identical to that of a flush deck A-28, but I want to be sure. (Possibly my after hatch has been moved forward to allow for the after cabin.) Because I live far away from Albin country I will have to order one to be made up in the US and then shipped up here for installation. I contacted North Coast (the new Albin maker) about this but they told me they were making only the Newport edition of the A-28 and it has an extended roof line with a three-sided bulkhead that would not fit my boat.
Is there anyone out there with an A-30FC that has an Alaskan bukhead? Can anyone with a flush deck A-28 provide any details as to how the bulkead is fitted, preferably with a photo?

John, I don't remember the previous post reply's but have you considered heavy duty vinyl curtains. I'm not talking lightweight ones. The previous owner os my boat had custom vinyl curtains made that work great. I use them in striper season when it's below freezing and the snow is flying...they work great, take about 10 minutes to install and are not permanent so the come out in the summer. I'll try to get a picture up.

There are quite a few of these boats out there with the bulkhead. I would think someone would be able to post some detailed pictures of the factory version that you could show to your fabricator.

Re: Alaskan Bulkhead Revisited
I have contacted two possible sources where the bulkhead might be made: NorthCoast in Rhode Island (the current Albin 28 maker); and the Oxford Yacht Agency in Maryland(a former Albin dealer with a maintenance facility at Dickerson Harbor).
At this time Nothcoast is building only the Newport Edition of the A-28 and it comes with an extended pilot house roof with a three-sided after bulkhead. This would not fit my boat. Although they were very helpful with information and photos, at this time at least they are understandably not interested in fabricating something for a boat that is not in their current production line-up.
The Oxford Yacht Agency advised that they know how to make a bulkhead that will fit and in fact they have a picture of an A-28 with a bulkhead on their website. (I think the owner of that boat is a member of this list.) In any case Oxford promised to make up a proposal for me and I am now waiting for that.
In the meanwhile I would still appreciate seeing any relevant pictures and/or receiving further advice.

Just checked out Oxford's site, impressive operation. Good luck with the bulkhead project. Here's the link to the page on the site with the 28TE. Wonder if these are owned by active members...johnmurray wrote:The Oxford Yacht Agency advised that they know how to make a bulkhead that will fit and in fact they have a picture of an A-28 with a bulkhead on their website.

Re: Alaskan Bulkhead Revisited
I'm trying to answer the call for pictures .... these shots are from my engine box model .... not a flush deck .... hope they are of some help.
In the past I have removed the starboard trim on the interior and exterior to access behind the pilot house panels to run wire through the roof top, but no sign of where the bulhead is secured to the hull in these locations. I have not been able to identify where it is attached. I imagine to the roof top and deck. The screws for the starboard trim along the botom along the deck appear much beefier than the side pieces suggesting they penetrate the deck and secure the bottom of the bulkhead, but can't be sure though it is probably time to remove and re-bed. These deck trim pieces are much beefier than the side trim as well. Always happy to do my best to answer any specific questions.
