rudder squeak
This Sunday, while trolling I noticed a fairly loud squeak coming from the rudder. Seems to squeak beginning about 1/2 way to full port or starboard positions. Just wondering if this is a preview or warning of a problem to come. If so, I'd like to get at it this winter. I didn't have a lot of time when we got back to look at it beyond being sure it wasn't leaking.
Thanks,
John

Re: rudder squeak
John, This spring mine had more of a squawk, than a squeak. I finnally took the time to lift the hatch while under way with a can of spray lube in hand. I started spraying the joints and knuckles on the rudder arms, but it continued until I shot some on the cylinder shaft. It has been several months now and it still hasnt returned. I bet thats your problem. It was very annoying, making it sound like an "old" boat.

Re: rudder squeak
I had the same issue about 2 years ago and did the same thing as Carl, no issues since. I give it a shot of lube once a year and all is good.

That's one advantage of the Peninsular. It's so LOUD I can't hear any squeaks.

Re: rudder squeak
Thanks guys, that's what I was hoping to hear. What I always expect to hear is $$$$.
I'll give it a try this weekend, don't want that squeak to scare the fish

Re: rudder squeak
I have to admit, when I first heard the sound, I thought $$$$$ also. Stuck my head down there while someone turned the helm back and forth and found the source of the noise and got lucky

Re: rudder squeak
Hello all -
Gotta love when the solution to a problem is a $5 bll rather than a $500 bill!
Since John threw a poke my way with the comment about the noisy Peninsular, I'll throw my 2 cents in.
Matt tells me that Albin had a design problem with the engine housing. There is a gasket that goes between the
engine box cover and the floor that will help reduce the noise. In addition, the compartments on either side can
be insulated to cut down engine noise.
I know that when Matt installed the new Peninsular in our Tiara Pursuit he re-insulated the engine box cover
and it really improved the noise problem on this boat.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
