Re: windless for a28 te
I put a "Good" windless on my 31 earlier this year, very solid & smooth, nice droping ability also. Bought their recomended 1/2 line with 10 feet chain to match. Paid a "Professional" install along with the air/genny. He failed to tie off the end of line in anchor locker (If you find it off Execution Light please give me a call, grrrr)
I do think the 1/2 line recomended is light and with the hi torque of the Good it can chew up line so keep a close eye when spooling up especially around the chain connection. Already cut back 40 feet which I chewed up.. Hope you learn from our mistakes.\
"Good" luck

I've a 2005 Albin 28 TE flush deck with a Lewmar Windlass. Works well, never had any problems. Wish I had the same luck with my engine, but that's another story.

Re: windless for 28 te
I have the Lewmar 700 windlass on my 28te, plenty power and no problems besides the stripper arm busting on it twice in 3 years. The windlass will have instructions on what rode/chain combo to use for the gypsm installed on the windlass. My Lewmar 700 requires I use 1/2" rode to 1/4" (G4 grade) chain.

I've got a 2002 28TE with a new stainless windless. I'll sell you original windlass that came with the boat. Both work great. You'll have to get the foot switch, and run some wire, but the savings will be worth it. FYI, the longer the chain...the better, always.

Re: windless for 28 te
I replaced my original Imtra "Dorado", which had always given me trouble, with a Lewmar Horizon 500 (horizontal windlass) this past spring. What a difference. The gypsy on the Lewmar has some pretty big teeth and it performed in a fantastic manner all season. I love this unit. The only down side .... no free fall feature.
The rode .... 30 ft. of chain and 300 ft. of 3 strand rode attached to a 20 lb. delta anchor and it launches well. I was very close to switching to brait rode, but decided to try the fabric softener soak route which worked well to keep it soft until just the past few weeks.
There is a lengthy thread on windlass discussion not even dating back one year somewhere.
