MAIDEN VOYAGE 2

Sea Holli is all fixed, now equipped with a ZF-63A transmission.
Here's the low down. Mack Boring said I'd have to move the engine
(Isuzu 157) back 20 MM, and raise it 7 MM. I didn't have to do
either. I bought a spacer from "SPURS" in Florida which fit between
the trans output flange, and the prop shaft flange to make up the 20
MM. The prop shaft alined almost perfect, just one small tweek, and
she was good to go.
What we did have to do was make the aft engine mount perch longer
on both sides. The aft motor mounts needed to move aft 1 1/2". I
had a new heat exchanger made to match the old one, to ensure it'd
fit in the mount.
We took her out with the mechanic on board armed with a temp gun.
He took temp readings about every 10 minutes or so. Max engine temp
was 184*, max temp at the trans cooler was 124*. She cruised at 12
knots at 2600 RPM, WOT turned 13.5 knots at 2800 RPM. That seems to
be a little short of WOT @ 3200 RPM. Proir to loosing the trans I
ran 12 knots at 2800, and topped at 14.5 @ WOT 3200 RPM. Could the ZF
be geared slightly different then the Hurth? Do I have to re-prop to
achive 3200 RPM?
Anyway she runs, I have a month until I haul for the season. Any
remaining issues can wait until then.

Tony,
Glad to hear you second trip went well. Try to get some cruising in before the end of the season.
