Props are you running on 31 TE?
Made it through the whole winter spring & summer without any major incidents. went out on the calmest of days yesterday planning to jot down RPM/Knots at differant speeds for comparisons for possible backup or new props.
I could not have asked for a more beautiful day but just as I pass the point of land before the runway, BAM, nailed something on my port side prop. Put into neutral, then forward with MUCH vibration, reverse same thing. Didnt see any wood (HOPE ITS A LINE WRAP, yes I said I hope) come up Gonna dive under & take a look this afternoon
Anyway, earlier in the summerI had asked a propeller shop by me & they recomended 19x21 with a smaller cup. Mahalo came with 20x20 & a 5 cup according to the survey
Any 31's out there know what props there running with twin 315 Yanmars??
(Please dont let it be a bent shaft too)

Quite an ironic day you had there. Sorry to hear that. Curious to see what you find after diving underneath. I’m sure you checked to make sure you were not taking in any water?
The props others are turning is a good starting point or general reference point. However, depending on equipment, weight, bottom condition, etc. no two boats will be a match. Your criteria should be only be YOUR rpm’s at WOT, fully fueled and loaded. The 6LP’s need to turn 3950ish. I think I recall you were not getting full rpm’s and each engine had a different max rpm. Start with a photo-tach of both engine’s so you know the error in each tach and go from there. As you know, those props will probably run you nearly $3K, so hopefully you can just work with the pitch and cup of the props you have.

There's an amazing amount of crap in the water that's not visible. In three seasons I have hit submerged objects 3 times. On the return trip from the NE rendezvous in July I hit a piece of unsplit firewood in the CT River just S of the highway bridge, fortunately at no wake speed, and then something else in Block Island Sound that I never saw. Last July I hit what I believe was a wooden shipping pallet off Block Island doing 18 kts. Unfortunately the 31 with twins doesn't have the protection of the skeg. The major reason I chose the 28TE was the skeg as it affords some protection from lobster trap floats. I didn't realize at the time that there was such a lot of other stuff to worry about just under the surface!

UPDATE!!
After hitting what I thoght might be a log or pice of wood causing a tremendous banging & shimmy at even the lowest RPM's I donned a mask and jumped in to take a quick look just outside my Marina.After a long night tossing & turning, expecting to see a mangled prop & a bent shaft I was FLABERGSATED to see a one or two yard Con Ed Dump Bag (Heavy Poly reinforced type) wrapped all around the prop & shaft. You cant believe how wide my smile was when I put Mahalo back into gearchecked rpms at lower speeds and brought both motors up to 3600 Rpms without vibrations or loss of KPH.
Damn I think it was one of the happiest moment since boating!
I will hold off til after the season & start off with a nice clean bottom Brushed & coated rudders posts, & more streamlined zincs to fine tune my prop needs.WHEW
On another note early on in the season after changing & adding additional zincs, they seemed corrode VERY fast, like in two months. A 30footer which has not moved in 2-3 years (&seemed unmaintained) was removed , I also added a "Fish Zinc" to the bonding system and all 2009 zincs except trim tabs are still intact.

Hey whats minus two feet visibility, been there done that on quite a few wrecks before. It's that itch in my crotch, my nails falling off and my hair falling out now (ooops I dont have any hair) thats bothering me.. No, I dont have to worry all the excess Jet fuel has killed off any possible bacteria form, fungui & bacteria's.
Besides I look kinda cute glowing under "Black Lights"

Eddie - glad to hear the good news. The amount of crapola in the water is astounding. I've had the same worries a couple of times ... a large trash bag that felt as what you described and a length of yellow nylon floating line that must of been submerged just beneath the surface. Both instances brought about a vibration that felt like things were going to be expensive. As you, I felt an enormous dark cloud lift both times. These are the fixes we love.
As far as the itch in your crotch ..... I'd keep that to myself .

It would be so nice to have a set of those protective bars that the 28'S have to protect the prop & rudder, one of the features I love on the 28's. The 31's rudders have always looked so susceptable to damage and dragging stuff.
