Hey guys,
Anyone out there know how many zincs there are on a 315hp Peninsular, and more importantly, where the heck they're located??
I found and replaced the one in the heat exchanger. Not seeing any other obvious ones I took a look at the manual for the engine that came with my boat. The ONLY zinc it lists is the one I've already found.
This just seems wrong. I'd assume that the aftercooler would have one as well as the trans. oil cooler.
So...are there others?

No, the aftercooler and transmission cooler are not flowing raw seawater, but rather coolant, which is non-corrosive. The aftercooler and transmission cooler absorb heat from the exhaust and transmission and transfer it into the coolant, which then moves it to the heat exchanger which transfers it to the seawater, which moves it overboard.
Some boats do have zincs in the coolant passages, but they rarely, if ever, need to be changed.
If your manual only references the one zinc, I'm sure that's all there is. That's not abnormal; I've had several diesel engines with this configuration.

I would swear that the raw water went through the aftercooler before it hit the heat exchanger, I'll have to double check that.
I do think you may be correct about the oil cooler, I'm trying to visualize it's location and hose configuration, it's quite possible it's fresh-water cooled.
I don't have the manual here in the office, I'll double check tonight. AFter reading some of the other posts about Yanmars with their 5+ zincs I was getting nervous that I was missing some. The one I replaced in the heat exchanger was a mess, it's now on my 'check monthly' list.
