Yanmar 315 engine alarm

Post by fairtide »

In a previous post, I mentioned a one-time and non-specific alarm while underway. That disappeared with a reduced fuel setting and did not reappear even when the engine was working harder. Question: on boats with Yanmar engines (mine is the 6LPA-STP, 315 hp, do your alarm lights on the helm panel light when you turn the key to the "on" position to show that they are connected and working? My oil pressure light and the charge light do illuminate, but the others such as low coolant, water in the fuel, low rawwater flow, and high turbo boost do not light at that time. Of course, the oil pressure alarm goes out within seconds of starting the engine.
I am having a Yanmar dealer do the 100 hour service today, so maybe there will be some answer from him. Gotta get those bolts torqued, etc.

Fairtide back on this: I had my local Yanmar dealer give the engine its required inspection, etc., and I was told that all warning lights are functioning properly. Unlike the warning lights in most cars, they do not light unless they are triggered by appropriate sensors. The tach and other engine gauges are illuminated whenever the engine is running, another difference between what makes sense and what is. I often thought that those lights should be wired into the nav light circuit. So, the story is that at least on my boat, the warning lights do not go on while the key is turned to the on position before the engine fires up.
