anchor windless wiring...

Post by tomcat rio »

i'm doing the wiring to install a horizon v700. using 10 gage wire.
...i think its best to wire the 12vdc directly to the + post on the house battery (in series with the 50 amp circuit breaker)...
...
the ground bus terminal on the main electrical panel behind the engine gages seems pretty robust to me. any good reason not to use that instead of somewhere else?
thanks.

also.. would appreciate any hints on the best way to drill the bow sprit for the windlass.

... the windlass has 4 mounting bolts and a hole for the anchor line.... it looks like it comes off pretty easily, if i have to do it that way. its about 3 or 4" thick.. a hardware store hole saw won't be the way to go.
...
i hate pay the shop for basically simple stuff like this.

You should be able to use a hole saw from each side. Start from the top, cut down as far as it will go. Remove the pilot bit from the saw, drill down through the entire depth. Re-assemble the saw and cut up from underneath using the hole you drilled through as your guide. You should have plenty of room for the drill given the depth of the anchor locker, if not you could borrow/rent a right andle drill.

Even if that didn't get all the way through it would get most of it. You could then finish it off with a hacksaw blade (drill a small pilot hole to get it started).
