Folding Table

Has any vendor developed a folding cabin table for the 28TE? I still need the table to serve as a bed platform, but I'm getting tired of squeezing behind the table every time I sit down. I trhink I remember seeing one on this site - can't find it again. Thanks!

I made a table from some 1X pine lumber ( 2' X 1'6" ) to see how it would work. Took the pedestal mount off the old table and mounted it to the new table top. I then cut the original table so I now have three pieces (much easier to stow) that we put together for the bed platform. It seems to work well, but I am going to make a new table top probably 2'x2' and I'll use oak or maple this time.

I have a similar question. Can the table be removed without unscrewing the deck plate? I'm 6'3" and squeezing in there is a little tight. I'd like to leave it off until needed.

The table top can be removed, but you'll have a sharp mounting plate atop the pedestal remaining. I've been pulling the entire assembly out when cruising, then placing the table top as the bed insert at night. I have a small suitcase that takes the place of the pedestal for support in that circumstance. When not using the bed insert, I store it in the rear berth. Not the best solution.

I have seen some photos of folding tables in AE-28's, but I haven't seen a solution in person. I imagine that the weight of the bed platform would mean there has to be hinging involved so it doesn't collapse when sleeping on it. It seems to me that an insert could be made that stores easily, folds from an upside-down position thus placing the hinges on top.

I very seldom use the table as is. With the engine box, and a great striped padded top, it makes a great table.

So how does the table come out? Does it unscrew like the helm seat?

I've been unscrewing the pedestal from the cabin sole (about 10 screws), and then unscrewing the table from the mount (about 8 screws). Store the pedestal in the cabinet in the head, store the table on the aft bunk. It does work, but it takes some time.
