Engine box insulation
Recently replaced the insulation on my engine box with 2" Sounddown insulation- with lead sheeting in the middle. It's not that hard to do. (The material can be cut with a box cutter- although you'll use up several blades cutting through the lead.).
Ordered the materials from them by phone- very easy to deal with.
Suggest you also order their metal fasteners (6 will do the top of the box)(the sides need only glue) and a roll of their WIDE tape. You'll also need to purchase spray on adhesive from a hardware store- 3M makes a good one that works well but it's about $17 a can. It takes almost 1 sheet to do the engine box- I ordered 2 sheets and am still currently using the second one to do the other hatch covers and other places beneath the deck.
Does it work?.........Yes. The noise level has subsided somewhat, but not as much as I had hoped for. It's still noisy. I'm now working with a welder to fabricate a stainless steel exhaust extension that will exit slightly under water (the exhaust is really noisy) (Try leaning your boat. at cruising speed, to port with your trim tabs - putting the exhaust under water for awhile and you'll see what I mean). Will certainly let you all know/if this works.
