Albin 27 bench seats

Post by Jeff Lavallee »

Does anyone know where to purchase seats similar to the bench seats thaat came in the Albin 27's ? It is fully removable with one side attached to the bulkhead on a track the side closer to the centerline has 2 legs with rubber feet. I have not been able to find anything like it online.

I suspect that the seat was custom for the boat at the time. Personally, I found it to be a nuisance, too long. First I cut it shorter so that I could access the port engine hatch without removing the seat. That worked well. Then I needed the seat for another boat so I bought a single seat with a folding seat back & also folded down against the side of the wheelhouse. Better still. Both hatches could then be opened without removing the seat. :D

They made the extrusion that mounted to the bulkhead - I think its is discontinued. You may need to email them a picture. Im going through the same exercise now - A tandem seat like the original should not be that hard to have made. You might be able to cannabilize the third seat from a station wagon or something. Only limit here is your imagination...

Yup, one of those fold down garelik seats looks familiar. Side bulkhead mount with a single leg.

tranmkp,
Thanks for the tip. It looks like they have similar hardware and may even be able to have one built?

When I bought my in need of updating but unmolested 27 a year and a half ago, my helm seat (bench) was pretty tired. I removed the plywood base and made another from PT ply, returning the upolstery adding large, house door style stainless hinges (ebay), and repositioning the leg a bit so I could open the hatch. I also added a nice oak channel, which is attached to the hatch to contain and strengthen the legs. The idea worked very well and resulted in a rock solid platform.

Sorry, I dont and the shrink wrap will be on for another couple of weeks. The channel I fastened ( 1/4 -20 stainless carriage bolts) to the hatch is approx 2x1 inch oak, long enough to contain the legs at both adjustments fwd/back.I cut the channel (5/8 deep) on a table saw and routed a radius on the outside top edges. I was worried it might be in the way but it really isnt - Personally, I dont like the origional "drop in" adjusting hardware and will probably replace that when I find an extruded aluminum type as discussed but for now what I have works -

There is an group on Yahoo where I have read posts of folks changing out their bench seats for something a bit smaller and more portable. Place a post there as to your interest in finding your bench and you may get lucky.
