Spring?
Could it be coming soon? Yesterday was nice. Today is high 50s and sun. This week is predicted 50s and possibly 60s on Thursday. I must be getting old when the highlight of my morning is checking the weather forecast. Next it will be the obituaries.

Re: Spring?
Sure was nice today! Went over to visit the boat for the first time since it was wrapped up. Plugged her in and put the batteries on charge. Was going to look at where to install the inverter that I bought last year and never installed. Had planned on putting it where the existing charger is, but its too big and wont fit. After lifting all the hatches for a spot, I think my only option is under the sink. I wanted to put it on the port side somewhere because of the weight, but cant come up with a good spot. Looked at what its going to take to change out the raw water impeller. I dont think Yanmar could have put it in a worse spot. On top of that you have to lay on your side and work on it through a little hatch. If I drop one of the screws it will end up in a place that you cant see or feel!
Come on April!!

Re: Spring?
Just got back from spending a few hours rocking on the water. Since it was nice out I decided to get down and change the engine zincs. All of them were pretty much eaten away and 3 fell into the water cooler and oil cooler (i think). I read a previous post that said they will just break down in time, Ok so that is 4 changed per engine and with tone more hiddenn somewhere cant find. Seems 2 were never changed since the grey paint was still on the nut ( side of fesh water cooler I think)_I had to remove a hose to get those off. One more somewhere on the tranny??
Also got to change the raycors, only "O" ring that seemed to fit was on the "T" knob on top, 2 others in box didnt seem to match anything. A friend said I had to hand fill the raycors to the top?? Not sure.
Oh well it was so nice out there today & it good to get down into the engine to familiarize with it.
Spring time just around the corner, lol

Re: Spring?
When I change the 900 series racors I fill each one. It only takes about a pint. I take a nice pouring gallon can and pour it full before putting the lid back on. This will minimize the air getting into the system, causing rough engine runs for a while. By the way if you have flow meters [like floscan] I coat the gaskets on the lid with heavy grease. This was recommended to me by the Floscan Sevice Manager. I also put new lids seals on every other year.

Re: Spring?
The first time I changed the filters I thought there were 2 O rings of the wrong size. Closer inspection showed 1 ring doubled up to fit in the plastic bag. Take it out and fiddle with it. A little diesel on the rings seals them fine. I bought a simple pressure gauge that screws into the top where the T handle goes. Tells you how much back pressure in the fuel system. When the gauge points "red" it's time to change filters. Before that I was changing them more than I had to due to paranoia. You can spend more $$$ and get a gauge with a readout on your dash, but on a 28 it's not that far to walk back and check it in place. On a 31 however.....

Re: Spring?
My zincs didn't go away...they stopped up my cooling system over a period of 5 years and I ended up having to use the Rydlyme to clean out my system. A year before using the Rydlyme I paid to have the heat exchanger taken off and cleaned out and a hand full of zinc pieces came out along with a hand full of other unknown stuff that looked like a combination of sand and shell. Keep a eye on your cooling system, especially any hoses that seem to be swelling up, as that was the first sign I had a problem. Temperature never went up but I blew a hose off the back of the inter-cooler twice.
