I just had my A27 Documented when I bought it in October. The information that I rec'd from Marine Documentations Inc., the company I hired to document it, was the following: "it is a violation of Federal Law to have both Vessel Documentation and State Registration Numbers and/or Title, 46 USC sec 12106(a)." The information went on to state: "Many states require registration of documented vessels for tax and other purposes. You may be required to place a decal on your vessel showing that you have complied with state requirements. Contact state authorities for further information."
Hope that helps,
Scott

Re: Vessel Documentation
FYI, I received the attached Notice for renewing the Documentation from a local service for a fee of $75.00. This is someone trying to solicite me to pay $75 for something I can do myself for free, direct with the paperwork I will receive from the USCG....beware!
