So I was heading into the office this morning and I happened to see that it was 9 degrees below zero so I figured it was a nice morning to head over to the boat.
When I ran the pink stuff through the engine I purposely left a puddle of it in the exhaust and plugged the exhaust port with a rag so no rain water, etc would get in and dilute it. At least then I knew that what was sitting there was a fairly close sample to what was sitting throughout the engine components. I figured it would be an easy way to check out the consistency of the stuff if we got into some real cold weather.
When I pulled the rag out and looked in it looked like “solid” pink ice . But to the touch it had a consistency like puddy or thick spackle.

Re: The Pink Stuff
Rob,
The pink stuff is the same for me.
Even last season, it "froze", but the difference is that its not supposed to 'expand" like water until -50 or -60.
If there is no expansion...........no problem. (lets hope it really works that way)

Robs.
Do you keep any sort of heater or light source in the engine compartment? I have been on the boat just about every week checking the engine compartment but it 8 degrees out there. I will check tommorrow.

Re: The Pink Stuff
I have been in temps as low as 18 below. The pink stuff remained slushy and was not frozen.

No, nothing in the engine compartment. All I do is plug in the shorepower cord every few weeks to keep the batteries topped.zinbaad wrote:Robs.

Re: The Pink Stuff
I use a "Hound" Heater in the compartment. It's a 150 watt ceramic element inside a metal container. Used as a pet house heater in some of the colder parts of the country. Seems to work great. I mounted it on two pieces of 2x2 and it sits on the post side of the engine. On the coldest nights, ( and yes, we were at 5 the other night), it seems to keep the engine compartment, at least somewhat warmer. I also use the anti-freeze as well, but the Pet Heater makes me feel a little better.
