Foredeck Tarp

Post by joe.baar »

Before our heavy rains and snow began this winter I cut up a brown tarp, rubber-cemented line around the edges, tapped in some (plated steel  ) grommets, and covered the foredeck with it. My drawing was faulty so the next version will have a better shape. My real intention was to keep more rainwater out of the chain locker than would otherwise be the case - you know those hatches - and maybe to keep the windlass out of the weather a little.
Hope these awful cell-phone photos are any help, I forgot the camera this morning.

Joe,
Good idea. I'm thinking about adding this to Afterglow this weekend.

Thanks,
John

If you don't mind, I have a small suggestion. Perhaps you would like to include a pocket for the pulpit (with or without the anchor). This way you can pull it from the rear edge toward the pilot house.

just an idea.

This is starting to sound like a marketing plan. I like it.
The pulpit mitton.
The windlass glove.
The bow condom.

Anyone on the board do canvas work? Put a drawstring and the Albin logo on it!

The pulpit should definitely be included if only to keep water out of that chain slot. However I didn't want to spend time designing around the fairleads and stanchions. A zippered or snap-on part would probably be a great solution for this. I really just needed to get something up as fast as possible. It actually surprised me there doesn't already seem to be a cover like this somewhere, especially given that the chain locker hatches appear to be purposely designed to keep the rode wet. Last winter my braid grew two large mushrooms, I kid you not.

I am pretty sure my anchor locker has a drain hole. Maybe yours is blocked with debris.
