Insurance - 760.00 for replacement value of 78k plus liability. (I should know how much, but I don't) 1995 TE. My insurance is through ACE. Geico called a couple of times to get my business but they have not sent a quote yet. The latest "good deal" is through the Coast Guard Aux. https://www.cgauxinsurance.com/

Slip, as mentioned before, 2045 for March - November. Water included.

The insurance issue is another great topic for discussion on this site. It deserves it's own forum as I'm sure there will be a great amount of replies to that one.
I was with Zurich for a number of years, paying approx. $750 per year. Coverage was $100,000/300,000 with replacement value at $109,000. Last year the premium went to $950. I checked around and found Travelers Ins. would provide the same coverage for the $750 price. That's who I'm with now.
This price is contingent upon a number of criteria which includes: not going past South Carolinia (I guess that means, stay the hell out of hurricane country) and hauling out for the winter season.

Insurance Costs

Post by zinbaad »

OK since we were getting a bit off topic on slip rates I decided to start insurance costs.
I decided on Travelers since I seem to have got the best rate & used them before. I had several choices as to the the "agreed value" & decided to go with the highest book value for the first year.
2006 31 TE For $1137
Agreed value $200,000
16 ft w/50 hp dingy included
$500,000 Protection & indemnity
$500, 000 uninsured boater
$250 deductable
Several additional riders with increased value Package.
operational from 4-15 thru 12-25 4 month layup
from Eastport Maine to Cape May New Jersey
Yes I could have cut about $200 off but would have dropped value & liabilities substantially & no dingy coverage. Not that I have one but a 14 ft Whaler with a 35hp to zip around would be nice

Speaking of my insurance. I received my renewal from ACE today. It was LESS than last year and the agent took the time to send me a note thanking me for the business. $612.00
Geico did call today as well. They could not match or go less than ACE.

78k replacement, 500k liability, 1500.00 towing, 25k medical, 50k uninsured boater, 10k electronics/misc. I have no claims experience. My last company was Progressive. I had 2 claims (small) in 10 years. No problems. But they were higher when I purchased this boat.

I was using Zurich and their rates have gone up. I looked into Boat US since I already have their tow insurance and was able to get a very simalar coverage for $461 vs over 800 with Zurich.

$90k replaqcement value, $300K liability, $800K Fuel and Spill, ununsured baoter $300K,

It's a spcial Coast Guard Auxillar/Angler's policy they cary. Not bad. I will also look into the CGAUX insurance that John mentioned.

In case you didn't know, BOAT US insurance gives a 10% discount to US Power Squadron members. I only recently found this out as they do not ask up front. So I re joined because the membership fee more than covered my discount. My premium is somewhere in the $ 1200 range...for a very, very slow 40 ft diesel boat. Go figure.

I dropped Boat US years ago. At that time, any boat over 10 years old was depreciated by 10% a year over 10 years if there was a total loss claim. I had a 69 Glastron that sank in 1999.

They may have changed by now, but that left a bad taste in my mouth.

We used BoatUS till the rates jumped, then Zurich, again rates up. Currently use Vigilent (sp?) through IMIS (Golden) on Kent Island and at $108,000 agreed valuation, $1,000 deductible other usual terms including trading limits (basically Chesapeake) and winter haul out (also a 50/50 on hurricane haul out), as I recall the premium for next year is $673. If further details are needed I'll look them up.
