UV Solution for the Windows?

Post by mackidaddy »

Hello everyone,
Has anyone come up with a good solution for adding a UV barrier to the Albin's windows?
I'm skeptical of doing an adhesive because it always looks so tacky. I was considering getting some customs done up through easyupshade.com
Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Eric

Looks like an interesting product. Storage when not in use would be a concern. But, I have a convertible. No windows.

What you really need is sunbrella covers for the windows. UV does not pass through glass. When we use UV in spectrophotometers we have to use expensive quartz cuvettes because the glass ones will not pass the UV light.

My buddy Dave had some really nice snap on shades made out of a white, perferated material. You can still see out, nobody can see in, it cuts heat build up and and fading. I'll try to find out what the brand name of the material is.

It is called "Phifertex". Wife made shades for our boat ut of it.
Do a search and you'll find a source..I believe "sailrite" carries it.

Yes, you shouldn't have any UV problems inside the cabin. We also have the see-through covers on our front windows, which are great for privacy and keeping the cabin cool during the day. However, don't think that becuase they are one-way during the day, that they will provide any privacy at night. They DO NOT. If you want privacy in the cabin at night, you either need blinds or traditional Sunbrella window covers.

Haha. You guys are funny. The story isn't quite as interesting as you guys might be imagining. It's just that, after a week on the boat, one night my girlfriend and I were walking up to the boat when we had left the lights on and I said, "I thought I put on the window cover" because I could see the inside of the cabin clear as day. Only to discover that the cover was, in fact, on. It just doesn't provide any privacy and we had generally assumed over the preceeding week that it probably did provide at least some. Not that anything happened for anyone to see, but it was just a little unsettling to realize that our assumption was quite wrong.
