It can be done, refueling in the Cape may area would put me at ~180 Miles

Some surveyor’s should be renamed “deal-breakers” as they just bring out nothing but negative and fog your head so bad you can’t see past the problems.

Unless it’s real major, just use the survey list of problems as a negotiating tool and in this market you should do just fine. Since the season was coming to an end I dragged my deal out for over 2 months and got it to rock-bottom and then when the survey was done I was able to negotiate even further. My deal was this exact time of year which is certainly another strong bonus for you.

As long as you factor the survey problem items into the final price do not let them discourage you. Better that there are issues found now than to have a bunch of things all go wrong “after” the deal. Plus making everything “right” will allow you to personalize her and become more familiar with everything onboard.

Getting back to the topic of this thread…..TOY-RIFIC was purchased last Nov and ran home to Moriches from Rhode Island Nov 30th last year. She is docked in Center Moriches just minutes from the infamous Moriches Inlet. We frequent the waters between the Great South Bay and Shinnecock. We also run to Montauk, the Peconics, LI Sound, CT River and everywhere in between.

Our 28TE has been perfect for our mixed bag of cruising, fishing and diving.

It seems you are learning quickly that this site is been a great source of information & entertainment. I usually check in to AOG in the early morning.

I lived in the Morris Park (Pelham Pkwy) section of the Bronx for years, and had my share of good times at the bars on Bell and Northern Blvds. I’ve been to the World’s Fair Marina looking at boats more than once. I also work in Manhattan and Queens a couple days a week so hopefully I’ll get a peek at Maholo in the near future

Keep us posted and good luck closing the deal….. Just remember they want the deal done as much or probably more than you!

Actually glad I have it surveyed... Been burnt bad on a use Mercedes I bought a while back with only 16,000 so I am a bit gun shy when it comes to motors & trannies. Hopefully it gets ironed out fast, brrrrr gettin a bit nasty out on the water for me.
I am looking for that mixed bag too. Love to break out my dive gear & have it all VP'd forgot the feel of 120 on my back that transom door looks perfect for diving too.

Zinbaad,
Keep in mind that it's worth a few hundred dollars to learn about the boat. Be prepared to walk away if you don't feel right. I have spent money on surveys only to find out I was blinded by the excitement. Discuss your offering price with the surveyor. He does this for a living and is working for you.

EDIT: I thought about this post and began to disagree with myself. (that's an argument you don't want to hear)
Unless your looking at mid-90s or older boat, I have never seen or heard of a horror story Albin. Well maybe one or two new delivery nightmares.
Most owners, myself included, are happy with the purchase of a used Albin. So...don't let what I said scare you. Just remember, this is not a Bayliner and the price will reflect that.

Sorry to go off topic here.

Stress

Post by RicM »

Don't stress it TOO much, it's only a boat. Albins are great boats and I know it's a big decision. We paid more for our 28TE than we did for our condo! Although in fairness the condo was 11 years ago, Time After Time just finished her second season under us. If the hull and the engine check out OK you can fix just about anything else with a little help from the folks on this board. Sleep well.

Matt,
Add about 20 miles to the end of your route near Betterton and your knocking on my door.
