Mercruiser D254 on Albin28TE

I have a 1994 28TE powered with a Mercruiser D254 (210 HP). It seems to me that this is a rare engine for this boat as most seem to have the Peninsular or Yanmars with higher horsepower. I'm curious to know if there were other 28's powered with this type engine. Perhaps share engine maintenance tips specific to this model with other Albin owners.

I think you're right. There are some " rare " engine model 28's out there. In my search I found Albin 28's with Sabre, Cats, BMW's, Volvo's, Peninsular, Cummins and Yanmars with a few Merc Cruisers thrown in. By far the Peninsular seems the dominant engine until 1999. Good luck on your quest, you might want to check out some other boating sites and just asked about the engine. Even though they might not have any Albin info, I'm sure there are many other boats that used that model motor. You might at least find some engine information that would be helpful.

Thanks for the info. I hope to find time tonight to look through some of the stuff you found. I'd already spoken to the guy at V12 (I think he's in Canada) and I've ordered parts from Stem to Stern.

From what I've heard, it's a BMW engine with some lineage from VM Motori (Italian company?). Supposedly Mercruiser bought the technology, but didn't continue manufacturing them. ??

I have around 500 hours on mine. I've heard their good engines but on the low end of the horsepower spectrum for the Albin 28. At times I wish I had more power, but given that I live in Manatee Speed Zone Central I'm idling most of the time anyways.
