Denis,
I was getting ready to say "dipstick"? Looks like I've been checking the reservoir/filter all this time. It always had fluid in it so I never went much further. (another reason to have manuals AND this site. Looks like a trip to the boat is in my future. I'll get there today or tomorrow and check out the other side.
Rob - Thanks for the pictures. I'll take my camera with me.

Do I check it hot or cold? Engine running or not?

Rob: I have heard of having a good profile for pictures but boy your transmission sure looks a lot better on the dip stick side.

The "filter" photo is no longer my tranny. It was R&R'd over the winter.

Thought I should followup on this post.
Thanks to everyone for the information. The dipstick is there on the starboard side. A little hidden under the mounts and exchanger. It was reading a little low but not dangersously low. Another reason why AOG is a good resource.

Thanks,
John
