Poppets and blocking

I am going to store my 28TE inside this winter and wanted to know if anyone has a blocking diagram for this boat, or do you just put them at the bulkheads? I am also wondering what size and how many poppets to purchase? One last question,does anyone know if I need to take the arch down to get bridge clearance when the boat is on a trailer from a boat moving co.?

Don't know what poppets are but blocking is simple. Block at 3 or 4 spots along the keel & 2 boat stands either side for a 28 will be fine. I've been blocking my Albins, first the 27, now the 32, for 23 years. Nothing has fallen yet.

The poppets or Boat stands, they need to be different sizes from front to back I would assume? I have ones that are 30" or so tall would they work?

The 30 inch ones will be close if that is their maximum height. The draft is 36 inches so you will need to get the boat as low as you can on the blocks and move the poppets inboard. If you were outside you could dig a hole for the keel.

The 30's for the stern should be good. Place one just forward of the exhaust discharge and one opposite on the other side. I use 2 sailboat stands forward because of the angle of the hull and blocking beneath the bow along with a 4 inch blocking beneath the length of the skeg. I'll measure the height of my stands later today. Remember, a length of chain between each pair.

Sorry for getting back so late. I checked out my stands & I have Brownell's which include a pair of MB-1 32" min. to 50" max Power Boat Stands and a pair of SB-3 36 - 54" Sailboat Flat-top Stands for the bow. You can get an idea on placement from the photo I posted previously. I block my bow pretty high in order for no water to stand forward under the dinette and and the sizes above work well.

Check out the link to Brownell's website. They have distributor links. In Bristol RI is Jamestown Dist. $92 for PB stands to $118 for SB stands. Sure beats West at 169 -189! I picked mine up direct when I bought my boat in '04. My yard rents them for $50 / pair/ season or sold them for $84 each at the time. I went into the black my 4th season on the hard!

Thanks for the info. I do not rember where the garboard plug is on the boat. If you keep it bow high does the water drain to the plug?

On my hull there is only one drain plug and that is at the stern in the transom. I recall others in previous discussions stating they added an additional plug below the dinette to get that standing water out.

After I am blocked and set I then begin the winterization process. That 1st season water from the hose when flushing & scrubbing, draining the hot water tank fully resulted in accumulated water in that low bow area and I was unable to remove. I suppose a shop vac would do. Anyway now I just raise the bow high and off it drains.

I have used a shop vac to clean out the forward bilge with good success. Depending on how often you check your boat and if you do a full shrinkwrap you might want to put a quart of -60 pink antifreeze in the bilge so any rain water that may collect there will not freeze up.
