The wrath of Hanna?

The effects in the Maryland area were a couple of inches of rain, tide about 2' above normal, and some wind. Nothing much to speak of. BUT..I heard, on the news, that "New Jersey is being evacuated" What? Did I miss something? Are our local governments so gun shy after Katrina and Isabel that they are over predicting?
Here they were talking about closing the Bay Bridge during the height of the storm. I don't know if they did or not.

For those members up north...how was it?

Nothing to speak of in Mystic, CT. We had a nice saturday weather wise, although it was cloudy it was very warm.
The only rain was saturday about 3 pm we had a one hour shower, then it held off until about 8:30 pm...which allowed us to have or dock party.
Wind started up abpout 9:30/10 pm but the max I recorded was 30 knots from the SE.
Sunday was a very nice day..hot with a very slight breeze.

I'd agree with Jay on the winds, not much to speak of at all but areas of Long Island are reported to have had as much as 4 inches of rain. However, the offshore bouy 20 miles south of LI did record waves to 17ft Sat night. Yesterday was down right gorgeous....

Our corner of Fairfax Co. had about 8" of rain in 10 hrs Saturday, but almost no wind (the exact opposite of Isabel). It was very localized - 10 miles East only got about 2". Other than very large trees & other debris streaming down the Occoquan River at high velocity that prevented a Sunday cruise (you get used to this on the upper Potomac), hardly any damage. Had to pump out some small boats at the marina that almost sank from rain water though.

Not much here either but part of my job (long ago) was to coordinate the emergency services for my County during severe weather ( all kinds) and to prepare for home land defense ( misnomer) and I'll tell you, it's a damn if you do damn if you don't business. The serious issues for not getting it right, is that the next time folks don't take the same precautions and get kind of complacent about the warnings. Then something like Hugo or Andrew hits the east coast and everyone pays a terrible price for not preparing or not evacuating.

Man I love the northwest. It's 75 and sunny with about 5-10 knots of wind out of the west today. And the 10-day forecast is for more of the same, all the way out.
