Newbie - any live aboards?

Post by BigAssHam »

Hi,

I'm a sailor at heart and used to live aboard many years ago. I'm starting to think about living aboard again in either Baltimore or Annapolis. However, as I get older ( wiser??), I'm thinking that a trawler is the way to go. For comparable money, it seems like you get a lot more living space. I've always liked the classic look of the older Albins and they seem to be a pretty good deal for an older 70's model.

Other than the usual stuff relating to any older boat ( blisters, soft spots, delamination ) is there anything in particular I should look for in an older Albin? Anyone currently living aboard that would like to share some insight?

Thanks.

Welcome to the group! Letterman fan?
I don't know what your budget is but take a look at Mary Grace in the for sale section. I have been on that boat and it is in great condition.
Priced very aggresive.

BAH,
I have a 1983 Albin 40. Things to look for in a boat iof that era are bad teak decks, and leaky windows.
All are fixable, but the damage can be extensive if left un repaired for any length of time.
The keels are filled with cement....they can also leak and hold water. fixable, but might take a while to drain while on the hard. Check it out thouroughly. My surveyor didn't find it..luckily it was only fairly minor intrusion.
Hope this helps.
