Yanmar generator

Hi guys,

First post!

I'm in the process of buying a 28te, one of only 5 in the uk that we know about!
It seems to have a problem with the generator hunting from full revs to almost dying. However on occasion it will run for half hour or more no problem. Fuel filters have all been checked......

Any ideas

Is it a gas or diesel generator? Model number?

She's diesel, I'll find out the model no today

Check the throttle lever, linkage, cable connections. Clean & lube.

You may also want to have the current owner check out the fuel pick up line within the fuel tank. If it is too low there might be some form of sludge clogging the fuel line. All hose clamps and the fuel gasket at the fuel filter must provide an air tight seal. If the fuel lines are old, they should not be collapsing or be collapsible.

Agree on checking the fuel lines. You may find that the ends are dried and cracked but overall they are fine, that's cause the ends are exposed at the cross section and they dry out. Just cut them back an inch or so and like new again.

I agree with whats been said already - its almost certainly a fuel line issue. I am over at the drystack, well ASV today/tomorrow if I have five minutes and you're about I'll pop by

Ok thanks all problem seems to be sorted. Blew through fuel line but also topped up fuel. There was only 45 litres in boat so was wondering if generator pick up is higher than main engine which would cause it to loose fuel earlier....?
