28 TE water heater

Can anyone tell me what size the water heater is on the 28 TE? Mine is very old and there is no model number. I believe it is a 6 gallon tank but not sure. I want to order a new one but want to make sure.

On my 2000 28 TE it is a Seaward F-650. All the parts are still available and should you ever get a hole in the tank, very easy to fix as it is made from quite heavy gauge aluminium.

Thanks for the update. I took mine out because it looked really rough. I'll inspect it before I replace it. The water would come out scorching hot even though I turned on the cold water. Do you have an idea why? Is it the heating element?

Hey Roland,

Sorry for the late reply. Are you saying that you turn on the cold faucet and you're getting hot water? If so you need a check valve in your water heater supply line. Hot water is essentially coming out of the heater backwards. Common problem and easily fixed. The check valve should be positioned to allow the supply line to flow in to the heater.

I guess I am a little confused. Is it as simple as simply putting a check valve like you call it and having the incoming water line attached to that? Is there any other connections I need to do besides that?

On my previous Albin 28, a 97 model, the check valve was in the plastic supply line leading to the water heater. It was a section about 4 inches long on the bulkhead between two of the connectors. After draining the water heater for winter I would reverse the check valve so I could add antifreeze to the water tank and have water for winter fishing. RV antifreeze seems to break down if it gets heated up. You can probably purchase one of these if yours is absent or broken.

That's what Rob is showing in the top picture. There's a check valve (circled in red) attached to the cold water inlet that prevents hot water from backfeeding into your cold water lines.

I'll see what it does and will add the check valve if needed. Hopefully, the new one is set to work just fine.
