I purchased Ruddy Duck in March 2012. It was lightly equipped with only a Tridata. I selected Furuno MFD 12 and Furuno 711 Auto for use on Georgian Bay (30,000 islands to avoid). The previous owner had the original overhead box still in the bag. The box was installed and engine gauges and safety alarms moved there. The installer then placed the MFD 12, Auto and Tridata at the wheel. Six hours of running and I can confirm that it is an ergonomic success

although i agree the need for more helm space for instruments i could not tolerate peering through the small slit between the overhead box and the dash board. as a six foot plus captain i require an absolutely open field of vision. no overhead on my 28 ....ever

There are a few advantages to being 5' 6" and this is one of them. Overhead box is not in my line of sight. I agree that from those over 6' these is not the preferred configuration.

Very nice reconfiguration of your helm! Glad it worked out well for you. Having that big 12" MFD is nice, isn't it? :-)

Having been through a reconfig of our 28 I must say I'm looking forward to doing the same on our 35. Whole different set of criteria and constraints...It will be "interesting".

That is a beautiful job. I see the switch for the VHF-hailer but where is the radio itself?

VHF is mounted vertically aft of the throttle.
