No rod holders......yuk!!!!

In all honestly, you better have a BIG, DEEP, pocketbook when you take on one of these. I spent the better part of a year re-building a UTB41, which is {was} the "work horse" of the USCG...twin Cummins VT903's, all aluminum....great boats...very expensive to re-furbish and very expensive to run.... I'll find some pictures and post them...very interesting re-build...

John,

Not exactly the same boat, but I posted the "ultimate recreatiional vehicle?" in the pictures section. Some people have already got their hands on some of these coast guard "surplus" boats.

Mariner identified it as a Coast Guard 47' Motor Life Boat.
I'm curious how much that boat in ebay will fetch.

Chief mentioned they are heavy on the wallet to maintain! Stick with your Albin - it has cupholders and rod holders factory installed!

Fuel cost

Post by RicM »

Let's see......
It was designed & built in the '60s. I seem to remember gas was $.26/gal at that point, what was diesel? $.15? Not that the federal govt was too worried about issues like that. How much do you want to pay for 47 year old technology?

Rod holders

Post by RicM »

Yeah, how do cut holes in the gunnels for the rod holders? Lasers? Then tig weld in the fixtures? Yikes!
