31TE Fuel Burn Rate

Post by RockHall »

I am truly impressed. 35 hours (mostly trolling for rock fish but a couple of cruises in there) and only burned 80 gallons. Lets see, from Rock Hall to St. Michaels 1.5 hours each way, and Annapolis 1 hour each way. Thats 5 cruising hours. Fishing at the triple bouys, six trips, cruising in and out at 20 mins each way. 7 cruising hours total. At 10 gals per hour that's 70, leaving 10 gallons for 28 hours of trolling. I love this boat! BTW, diesel is $0.50 cheaper in Annapolis than Rock Hall.

We have usually averaged about 3.3-3.8 Gal per hour over the course of a season with our 03' 28TE w 315 Yanmar. These are thrifty boats that perform extremely well in the uses most owners put them to. The area above 20 kts on any boat is where things get expensive quickly. If you can live in the 10-20kt world, boating is not the ridiculously expensive hobby most make it out to be.

Right on - I have used about btwn 50 & 60 gallons this season and have clocked 18-19 hours. I have really been staying back on the throttle usually cruising 3000 or less and only a few test moments at WOT. As an A27 owner on this sight once posted, "the joy is in the journey, not the destination." I have a 15 min or so no wake creek ride coming and going so that adds a good half hour to the clock each time I go out. It makes for a nice warm up and cool down for the diesel.

Actually I am confused on my 31's fuel consumption. Filled up back in March & again topped off with 168 gallons last week, forgot to write down the hours at that time. 225? and now at 255 hrs. 168 gal divided by 30hr=5.60 gph how can that be,, i think thats right
damn that is good

What do you 31TE guys think your actual range is at around 12 knots? I'm looking to purchase a 31TE and range is very important to me. Thanks

Twin 315's travelling mostly at 20-21 mph to Essex for 5 hours + small trip up river to Hamburg cove was 13.50 gph @ 3000 3100 RPM
Return trip netted 12.77 GPH 4 1/2 hours back to NYC 20-23 mph 3000-3100 rpm
Actually I am impressed with the 31's fuel consumptiom

Perhaps I need to slow down a bit since Nov 08 to Aug 2nd I went from 190 hours to 341 hours. 151 hours for this season...
I just love this boat........
