Post by cmoffatnc1 »

We are replacing the curved plexiglas windows on our A25. Has anyone had luck location replacement "cord" that fits in the rubber gaskets around the window?

Thanks.

You need to replace the weatgerstrip. No way to reuse it. There are posts here with partnumbers and everything. Any local glas shop can get you the weatherstripping and the lockstrip. Its not easy but not overly hard to do. Frustrating is the word i was looking for..

I happen to have about 12 ft of weather strip including lock strip in my shop collecting dust left over from when I redid our front & rear plexi windows in 2019, which I believe is enough to do one or the other but not both windows. I have the name and snail mail address of the guy I got mine from, a Mr. Edwards (John?), 117 W Irvington Place, Denver CO 80223. That's the only contact info I have, and that from the return address on the box he used to send them to me. If he still lives at that address you could write to him & find out where he got his from. Anyway, what I have is yours for the cost of shipping.

If 12 feet is not quite enough I have a couple of short scrap pieces that add up to another 32 inches, although 12 feet should be just enough to do one window. Since I just sold my boat I don't have it here to take actual measurements, but I believe the forward cabin window close to 5 feet across and 8 or 10 inches high with a shallow curve at the ends while the aft cabin window is closer to 4 feet wide and a sharper 3 or 4 inch radius curve on the ends.

Update: I had offered to send my left rubber window gaskets for cost of shipping, but never heard back, so I sent them to Dave T, the buyer of La Dolce Vita who wants to replace OEM gaskets on some of the other windows. However, I've found a source for what you're looking for from Grainger.

https://www.grainger.com/product/TRIM-L ... ems_10G549

It's called "TRIM LOK INC Window Locking Gasket: Double Piece (requires key)" From website pictures it looks exactly like what I used to install 0.25" thick plexi windows. However I did not obtain mine from a supplier, instead purchasing leftovers from another AOG member. Since I was only doing front and rear curved plexi windows on forward and aft cabins I didn't need a whole lot, just around 20 ft or so. Note the how to installation video on the web page. I had an install tool which I passed along to Dave T but am sure you could improvise something. You may want to ask for a small sample before buying a large amount to make sure it's the right size.

Good luck!!!

That looks like its for installing in 1/8 plate. You need 3/16-1/4 on both panel and glass I think

They carry various sizes. I would suggest contacting the manufacturer for advice. All I know is the leftovers I got from another A25 owner looked the same as the picture on the web page & it worked for me.

Forget the 3/16 and go 1/4 by 1/4. There is considerable variation in the cabin wall thickness, particularly in the window corners, where the intersecting layers of fibreglass result in significant thickening.

I'll be replacing the fwd and back windows in my Albin 25. I've read this thread and searched this Grainger link for 1/4" x 1/4" TRIM-LOCK, but it seems they only carry the 1/8" x 1/4". Has anyone found a source? Thank you.

It turns out that TRIM-LOK sells directly, but in 100' rolls. After looking at the options, the one-piece LK 1535 looks like a possible choice for two reasons. One is that it looks like it could accommodate differing thicknesses, two is that it doesn't need a separate key, which adds a lot to the cost as the key is only available in 200' lengths.
I can see buying the 100' length as some of the other gaskets seem pretty tired.

Does anyone have any thoughts about this?

I have not seen anyone using the integrated version. My guess is that it is not holding as secure since its not going to be as solid. I bought mine at a local glass shop. I think it was a 1/4-1/4 i used? I will have to check. I still have some saved for my rear window.

I’m like DA. I have some pieces left over from when I did ALL my Plexiglass windows. Lucky you, only doing two!

I’m not sure how much is left but will try to hunt it down later today. At the very least, I will hopefully find out the manufacturer and supplier I ordered it from. It’s still in the original box, iirc.

Thanks very much to both of you for the help. I've never been the best at internet searching.
The front and back windows are a must, but if I'm buying a lot of the extruded rubber, I'd like it to work for the glass windows too.
Are the glass windows 5 mm thick?
None of the windows seem to leak, but they are 54 years old and the boat has lived outside most of its life. I will have to paint the deck and house as I'm seeing bare fiberglass in places, so that would be the time to take all the windows out.

I bought a trailer for the boat, so will be able to get it to my shop. I'll have it hauled with a travel lift, so I can get the bunks adjusted.
