Where is the best location for the pump on a 28te?
Close to the helm or close to the steering ram?

That is exactly where mine is fitted. The other option is possibly on the port hand stringer under the helm but I chose the medicine cabinet location so I kept the hydraulic hoses short.

You can save yourself a ton of money by buying the pumps direct from the manufacture. I bought my pump from Hypro here in the U.K. who make the same pump for Raymarine, Furuno and simrad.

Tree,, Thanks,I will try to get the pump from the UK,
I didn’t know that was an option,,I’m going Raymarine Ev-150 I think,,I was hoping to get the EV100,,but it is close to right size but might be too small a pump and computer might inadequate,,

Thanks,,I emailed a few hypro dealers and the one in the US said the pump doesn’t have the right valves and will burn out?
I emailed Hypro directly and they said sure it will work,,hmmm,,

Hypro put the check valves in the pump. Mine works as described and has done for 7 years

Not the best pic, but pump behind the helm accessed from the head. I have the old Simrad/Robertson AP11 that is still working

Ok,I ordered the pump,,
Now ,,is the rudder reference indicator mandatory? Or just nice to have,,
Also can the pump hoses be curled around? Because 30” is too long for where I’m putting the pump
I’ll need to go find custom hoses otherwise

The Raymarine Axiom + I installed in my Silverton has a built in "virtual" one. I would put one in because it is easy to pull the wire on a 28TE.
