Hi all, I received a quote to install autopilot on my 28 albin. The boat has never had it before so its a totally new install. He will be installing the Garmin Reactor 40 Hydraulic Corepack with Smart Pump. Cost on that unit is $3599. He quoted 2.5 -3 days labor and materials the total came to $8,200. Does this seem high?

Seems massively high. I bought a used Raymarine unit with computer for £500. I bought the pump separately and had the hoses made up at a hydraulic shop. These I did get at trade for about £350. I installed it myself and took less than a day - I’m no marine electrician.

Let’s say $120 per hour for a master marine electrician: 7-8 hours maybe if he knows what to do from the beginning?
20 hours if slow and learning?
Not sure, but I would get a second estimate..

I am using a old Raymarine ST5000 that came with the vessel from the original owner over NMEA0183 to my new Simrad electronics. Works great... You should be able to install one if you are handy over a weekend.

Thank you to all that responded. I just got another quote for the same set up at 1/2 of the cost. That is the route I am going to go.

Who did you get the second quote from. I am still looking for a guy to do some work at a reasonable price. I was quoted 10 hours to install a pre wired windless.
