If your 3/8" plywood flexes too much, you can easily add a couple of 1" x 2 (3/4" x !.5") cross members underneath. They needn't extend all the way out to the edges resting on the L-molding.

Thanks for the tip. I'll post a pic after the weekend and ask whether you think the moulding needs an upright support.
