Now that several days have elapsed from the date of the posting of the initial questions on this thread, one can assume that the answer to the first question (“has anyone calibrated their 36-DC fuel tanks”), is no.
The “no” answer then makes the second question (If so, do you have the measurements?), n/a.
In as much as we are here to help, especially since the author of the first post came back with some tank dimensions, then observations, calculations and suggestions have lead to some mind expanding exercises for some of us – the gray matter ain’t like it use to be.
The dip stick approach of JLeonard and the diagram of DougSea encouraged me to come up with a dip stick solution, keeping in mind the 1/3 rule.
24” full tank
16” outbound limit reached – return to port
8” return limit reached – should be back in port
Below 8” you are on reserve. Because the lower portion of the tank is a triangle in shape you are really on emergency reserve – ½ capacity of the outbound or return supply. The amount of fuel available at this point is less than you think because the fuel supply line doesn’t sit at the bottom of the tank and one normally doesn’t want to suck fuel from the very bottom due to possible foreign contaminates in the tank.
Kiss and safe is the way to go…

Unfortunately, on the 36’ DC the fuel tank inlet drops down about 6” from the deck fill then makes a 90 degree turn into the side of the tank close to the top. Can’t use a dip stick, which I would prefer, but then no chance of water leaking onto the top of the tanks from a leaking fitting. At least there are site tubes.

I just try and keep my tanks full. And use a spreadsheet to keep track of hours, fuel burned/remaining, etc. Also, I was under the impression my 36 DC had two 175 gallon tanks vs. 150s.

I'm not sure if they increased the size between 1983 and 1985. Can you check your merasurements? I think the only thing they could have done is make the tanks longer. Mine are 60".
