Re: Thinking of 10' Solstice inflatable
Considering a used 8 ft Achilles with the would floor and a 3.5 Tohatsu. Engines seems, @ 41 lbs to be do able, didnt check the weight of the 8 ft. Engine is fairly new so at the used price if I am not happy I could always pass it on... Going to check reviews of the 3.5 Tohatsu... I think it only has a forward & neutral I guess it will take some getting used to to do the 360 degree spin for reverse, lol.

Re: Thinking of 10' Solstice inflatable
The 3.5 likely has no connection for a remote tank. Lay her on her side (close vent first) and see if she leaks gas, that could be annoying but could just mean she needs a new gas cap..

Be advised that Tohatsu also makes the small Mercury engines. They are literally the same internally.

Yup Tohatsu makes both the smaller HP Mercs and Nissans. They are identical other than paint and decals..jleonard wrote:Be advised that Tohatsu also makes the small Mercury engines. They are literally the same internally.

Great so I will able to paint it and make believe its a Mercury ( but I'd rather have an Evinrude)

Re: Thinking of 10' Solstice inflatable
Our Honda 2hp has the "spin around" to get reverse. I think it's cool. Works great. The tiller also swings in an arc, so it's still inside the boat. That baby backs up anywhere you want her to go.
Then , spin her around and your off and running.
Our 8'9" Hypalon inflatable weighs 96 pounds. Can't just toss it around, but it's very manageable, especially with 2 people.

Re: Thinking of 10' Solstice inflatable
ok made the decision & picked up a used Achilles slat floor 8.8 ft with 2010 Tohatsu 3.5 after everyones advice on size of engine. The combo seemed to be priced right so we'll try it for the season. I think the Weaver Davitts might also be a good choice for when Lil Mahalo is being actively used & what the hell if I am not happy with can always trade it back in. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions now I just have to go find two Newfounland Pups to cruise around with

We have a 28 TE Newport with an AB Alumina dingy(95 lbs. ) & a 15 hp yamaha 2 stroke ( 95 lbs) on Weaver davits and it works great! Motor left on dingy while we on plane or crusin. Look at photos taken at Albin Rendevous Cape harbor Marinia, 2011.
