Starter - how to know?

The end game, it was the relay (kind of) I have replaced it with a new one, but it may have still been ok. As I was going through the reassembly, I notice the bracket holding the relay was sitting lower than normal. This would allow one of the posts on the relay to ground on the starter body. Hence the intermittent working. So I have adjusted and added a lock washer. But now added inspecting the bracket to my start up list, to see if over time it loosens a bit and begins to slip back down. I have also added the remote starter to my tool bag, as it worked like a charm
