A27 fuel tanks

Post by SaltyDogNY »

Question about the dual tanks on 1987 27FC

I only see a tank vent on the starboard side of the boat. Is there no vent on the port side?

My port tank drains significantly faster than my starboard tank when both tank valves are open. For every 3-4 gallons I put in the port tank, I only put 1 gallon in the starboard tank. Any obvious reason for this or is there an issue with the system/user error?

TIA!

I have an '85 A27 Express (no aft cabin). It has different fuel tank(s) than you have. My A27 has two 50 gallon saddle tanks. there is a vent just below the gunnel on each side - near to the fuel fill for each tank.

I have an 89 A27 with the 2 tank configuration. There should be 2 vents on both sides within inches of each other - port fuel and water, starboard fuel and septic. If any of those were missing it would be very curious and you might look closely for repair work. The fuel vents could technically be ganged together, and that could result in less pressure on the closer tank. I hear a clogged screen in a vent is one of the first suspects.

I understand it is not uncommon for one tank to favored. Lower pressure from the line length, elevation changes, partially clogged vent, etc. Using a single tank at a time gets a predictable result.
