Hello Bob, I tried the umbrella and my take is that I did not like having the base taking room on the cockpit deck. Umbrella was better than nothing... The solution we came up with was the soft awning, which was very reasonably priced. The awning is rapidly deployed with snaps on the fishing pole frame and two extendable poles on the stern. I only use it when we are docked and it provides good shade without reducing any cockpit deck area.

Re: Shade for 35CB Cockpit
"It looked more expensive than we had in mind so we stuck with a Taylor Made umbrella as someone else suggested."
