Trim tabs

Post by NJRobert »

Hopefully someone can help me out. I am in the process of getting ready for another boating season here in NJ. I've taken the trim tabs down to the metal and they're prepped for paint. However, I cannot seem to get to the top side of the tabs to clean them. When I take off the two screws holding it to the piston, the hinge will only allow the tab to go so far down and unfortunately, not enough room to clean them or paint them. This is on a 2007 28 Newport but I believe the trim tab design hasn't changed much through the years.

Thanks
Robert

The 32s are the same way. Huge nuisance.

I just scrape as best as I can using whatever works. I've got a homemade chisel made from an old vehicle leaf spring. For painting I use a long handled artist bristle brush.

It aint pretty but who looks in there anyway?
