Skeg for A27

Post by obertra9 »

I put my 1990 A27 Sport Cruiser in winter storage today and found that my skeg was cracked in half with the rudder half missing. Does anyone have dimensions for the distance from the keel bolts to the rudder post so that I can have a replacement made?

I searched previous posts on "Maintenance" and "A25/A27" and could not find what I was looking for but did fine the attached picture from JohnVB1014. It represents my old skeg well, but mine was wood coated in fiberglass whereas the picture shows an aluminum tube.

Thanks for any help.

I wouldn't try having a new one made using dimensions from someone else's boat - I would very carefully measure my own to ensure a good fit

I'm not exactly clear on what part and what dimensions you're looking for?

I beleive from what he wrote he is referring to the part running from the skeg to the rudder shoe...

When we purchased Isabel the skeg was a wood timber and rotted. I replaced with a hallow aluminum box beam. The forward end that bolts went through I filled with epoxy so as to have a solid end to secure it. We are in fresh water on Lake Ontario and have a magnesium 'zinc' on the skeg that gets consumed after about two seasons, but the skeg is holding up well. In salt water, I don't know.

Isabel is now on the hard, and if you want dimensions, let me know.
