Flush Deck Cockpit Deck Height?

Post by djpeewee »

We met some people up in the San Juans last week who have a 2005 28 Flush Deck. Ours is a 2004 Flush Deck. It was pretty obvious that their cockpit deck was somewhat higher than ours - probably about 5" higher. Just curious why this is? Anyone have any insight on this?

does yours have the step up into the helm area? I believe the first flush decks had a step up into the helm station to account for the engine height. the later boats the entire deck was raised (I think only a few had the lower deck)

I've noticed differences in later boats. My buddies 2005 has way more head room than my 2000 yet both boats sit side by side height for height on the water.

We don't have many Albins around here to compare, so it is interesting to see the different build configurations.

Yes, ours has a step up to the helm, probably about 4 or 5".

I noticed also that the 2005 did not have the padded bolsters around the cockpit because there wasn't room enough with the raised deck and the rod holders. There was barely an inch between the gunwale and the top of the rod holder insert. No transom hand rail either.

I wonder if there was ever two that were built the same? Each of the 3 or so I have seen up close around here had different configurations.

yea it sounds like you got one of the early flush decks. most of the ones had the entire floor elevated. I haven't seen many if any with a transom hand rails from the factory ...any pics?

You ask if I have pictures? I probably have a picture of every square inch of this boat. Maybe two pictures for every square inch - a before and after. Like you, I believe I have left no stone unturned in working on this beast.

Handrails all around.

Thanks Tree. Did you make all of the cockpit hand rails or just the transom one?

I made them all buddy. I've designed them right down to the screw head size and shape to look OEM
