28 TE 2000 Play in steering wheel

Can any one advise if the steering wheel has adjustments to tighten up play?

If it gets worst when you tilt the wheel it's in the steering helms u joints(Clunky ).

If it feels like its skipping a beat it's probably air in the system.

I went through that last year, leaking hydraulic cylinder by the right by the rudder. Easy enough to see a leak there and fix. Check the fluid level at the helm.

I check my fluid at the helm about every six months or so. A Sea Star retailer told me earlier this year that enough fluid sticks to the rams going through the cylinder to notice in the steering after a while. The alternative is to replace the seals.

Now, does anyone know what could cause a very high pitched squeal in the steering at the wheel? After all, this is a hydraulic system.

What did you do Joe? Go and break the perfectly good boat I sold you!

Is this a new development or something since you noticed from day one?

That cylinder is the updated cylinder from Teleflex and is also two sizes up from the standard OEM install. Anything is possible but I highly doubt it is leaking. She had an inherent play in the helm from day one. I completely bled that system more than once with the install of the autopilot and then the upgraded cylinder install at a later date. The play remained unchanged. IMO it's in the linkage in the helm.

Rob, this boat is better than ever!
Noticed this from day one, not a problem, just thought I could find a quick fix. Every thing is working perfectly, even repaired the chart light and new motors in the spotlight. You would be proud.
Just finished installing a fold down transom seat ( photo to follow). All done for now.
Now just have to hang a stripper.

What seat did you use? I'm thinking I need to add one as well!

Thanks..

Mike,
I am going down to the boat today, I will take photos and post.
I had a plastic fabricator make the bench out of King Starboard (350.), used some Seadog hatch hinges (50. and Garelick folding legs (75). My canvass guy is making the cushion (200).
Was going to use Birdsall seat (700.) plus shipping just wanted something different.
