Should be in the bilge area under your helm seat.

Re: Macerated
They were not all equipped with one. Start at the sanitation house thru hull fitting and work backwards.

Re: Macerated
Out of interest, is the macerator only for the holding tank? In 30 years of boating, I've never had the need to use the heads for that reason and also discharge laws over here aren't as tight as they are over there - holding tanks are not really that common on smaller boats here

Re: Macerated
Tree, I can understand why the guys over on the other side of the pond don't need discharge regs. You're an Island in the ocean. The best part is all of that good stuff travels south along Africa, to the Bahamas and then up the Gulf Stream. I suppose that explains why our fish have that "European" taste to it . However, a good glass of cab makes it all good. My macerator is on the starboard side, under the helm.

Re: Macerated
Another, probably silly question. When the holding tank is full, how do you empty it? I am pretty sure that is where we are getting a bit of a pong from so I would like to clean it out but am unsure how it is supposed to be emptied?

Re: Macerated
You should have a deck plate, most likely on the starboard side, labeled "Waste". The "contents" are vacuumed out at a pump out station. Many marinas over here have one or two and there are traveling pump out boats that also do this service.
Depending on the type of tank you have the pump-out fitting could be teed into the overboard pump or it could be a separate fitting on the tank.

Re: Macerated
That's what I assumed but don't know anywhere local that can pump out. I've put a small amount of solution in the tank that is supposed to kill the bacteria for the time being to see if that makes a change.

Re: Macerated
Some googling brings up Port Solent Marina and Gosport Marina. Both list "pumpout" in their services.Tree wrote:That's what I assumed but don't know anywhere local that can pump out.

Funny enough, Gosport is my marina! No idea where its done though - I'll ask the Mark the marina manager where I need to take the boat to get it done - we have about 800 boats here.

Re: Macerated
Be careful killing off the bacteria in the holding tank. I got the bright idea of adding bleach one spring to clean the tank out. It killed all of the good bacteria that help keep the odors down. For almost a month anytime some pumped the head, the smell would drive everyone else overboard. It was not very conducive to guests on boardTree wrote:Another, probably silly question. I ended up rinsing the tank repeatedly and then adding a product call Odorloss and I haven't had a problem since.
