What is this pump for?

Post by Tree »

I'm assuming the boat had a vacuflush toilet fitted once -otherwise no idea what this pump is for or where the switch for it is!

It's next to the macerator and has an overboard discharge to it.

Tough to tell from that picture, but it looks like the belt driven Jabsco bilge pump for the pick-up under your engine. Mine was set aft and inboard of the holding tank.

I think that's what it is but I've got a pump under the engine too. It would explain why I can't override the pump and it only works in auto.

You really could use a better photo :D but I agree that it could be the centrifugal bilge pump.

Where does the intake hose come from? On our boat, the centrifugal pump is mounted in the center bilge between the holding tank and the hot water heater. The intake hose is under the engine.

My understanding is that there are hardly any two Albins wired the same, but on ours, both bilge pumps have switches at the helm. The're wired to run automatically or by manual override.

Sorry for the poor photo - damn iPhone!

I am guessing that the pump is seized and thats why there is an automatic pump on the system already. I've chased the wires through and the pump under the engine is auto only, no sign of any manual override but it would appear the cables to the centrifugal pump are live but blow the fuse when manually overridden - hence seized pump.

I think I will just remove the centrifugal pump and put a straight hose direct from the auto pump under the engine to the outlet - keep things simple.
